Martha O. Dinwiddie
Martha Dinwiddie is an associate attorney at Stephens & DiRado, LLP. She is without question one of the very best young attorneys practicing in Knoxville. Only a few years after graduating first in her class at the University of Tennessee College of Law (Class of 2022) she secured monumental wins for clients facing decades in prison. Ms. Dinwiddie is an extremely promising trial attorney who has demonstrated a keen interest and superior talent in post-conviction work.
A Knoxville native, Martha graduated summa cum laude from Sewanee: The University of the South, earning her B.A. in Psychology and Women’s & Gender Studies. While there, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and served as a four-year starter on the varsity women’s soccer team —an early testament to her discipline, toughness, leadership, and drive.
While attending law school, Martha served as Managing Editor of the Tennessee Law Review, was a legal Process Fellow. She was recognized for her superior intellectual acumen receiving several academic awards including Order of the Coif, International Academy of Trial Lawyers Award, Jerry V. Smith Evidence Award, Herbert L. Davis Memorial Award for the highest 2L GPA and selected as the Summers, Rufolo, and Rodgers Advocacy Scholar.

Since the founding of Stephens & DiRado, LLP, Martha has played an integral role in the Firm’s success. She recently won a new trial for a client serving a 31-year sentence, ultimately resulting in an outright dismissal of the case. In addition, she successfully presented a post-conviction, ineffective assistance of counsel claim for a client that resulted in the court setting aside a conviction for a client serving a multi-decade sentence and granting a new trial.
Martha is an active member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. She is a member of the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Amicus committee and has co-written multiple amicus briefs submitted in cases before the Tennessee Supreme Court. She has had work published in TACDL’s For the Defense publication, and has presented at TACDL sponsored events.
While Ms. Dinwiddie has demonstrated significant trial skills, her appellate/post-conviction skill set has already established her as one of Knoxville’s very best in the field.
