When Does a Criminal Case Go to Jury Trial?

In Tennessee, not all criminal cases go to trial. Many are resolved through plea negotiations or dismissed based on weak evidence. However, if:

  • You choose to reject a plea deal,
  • The prosecution insists on moving forward,
  • Or you are fighting for a full acquittal,

then your case will go to jury trial in Criminal Court.

At trial, a jury of twelve peers will hear the evidence, arguments, and testimony—then decide your guilt or innocence beyond a reasonable doubt.

Criminal Charges We Take to Trial

At Stephens & DiRado, LLP, we’re not afraid to try even the toughest cases. We’ve successfully defended clients in jury trials involving domestic violence, drug charges including possession, trafficking, and prescription fraud, DUI and repeat offenses, firearms and gun charges, sex crimes including sexual assault, exploitation, and registry violations, theft and property crimes, assault and violent crimes, and juvenile offenses tried as adults. We prepare every case as if it’s going to trial—so when it does, we’re ready.
